Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Screen Express services, pricing, and booking

Booking & Service

Do you come to my home, or do I drop off my screens?+

We come to you. Screen Express is a fully mobile service — we measure, cut, and install on your driveway or at your door. There is no drop-off and no second trip.

How quickly can you provide service?+

Same-day and next-day bookings are available in most GTA cities. For same-day service call us before noon. Free estimates are provided on the spot before any work begins.

Do you service my area?+

We serve the entire Greater Toronto Area including Toronto, Scarborough, Etobicoke, North York, Markham, Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, King, Georgina, East Gwillimbury, Uxbridge, and Whitchurch-Stouffville. See our Service Areas page for detail.

Do you work on weekends?+

Yes. We operate Monday through Saturday, 8 AM to 7 PM. Sunday appointments may be available on request for larger jobs.

How do I get a quote?+

Call or text us, use the online quote form, or message us on WhatsApp. Most quotes are confirmed within a few hours. On-site quotes are free and provided before any work starts.

Repairs

Should I repair or replace my window screens?+

If the aluminum frame is straight and the corners are tight, rescreening costs 60–70% less than buying a replacement screen. We will assess your frames on-site and give you an honest recommendation. Bent or corroded frames are better replaced.

Can you repair a patio screen door that jumps the track?+

Yes. Derailed sliding screen doors are one of our most common repairs. We reset the rollers, replace worn wheels if needed, and check the track for warping. Most patio door repairs are completed in under 30 minutes.

My screen has a small hole — is it worth fixing?+

A small tear in good-quality fibreglass mesh can be patched, but the patch is visible and not as durable as a full rescreen. For a single small hole we usually recommend a full rescreen of that window since the labour cost is the same and the result is better.

Can you repair screens on older homes with non-standard window sizes?+

Yes. We carry aluminum frame stock and cut it to exact dimensions on site. Non-standard openings common in Victorian, Edwardian, and postwar homes are not a problem — we fabricate every screen to your specific measurement.

Products & Materials

What mesh types do you carry?+

We stock fibreglass 18×16 (standard), fibreglass 20×20 no-see-um (fine insect mesh), solar/sun-screen mesh, aluminum mesh, PetScreen (pet-resistant), and TuffScreen. We will recommend the right mesh for your situation.

What is no-see-um mesh and do I need it?+

No-see-um mesh has a 20×20 weave — twice as fine as standard 18×16. It blocks tiny midges and gnats that pass through regular mesh. It is most useful for properties near ravines, water, or wooded areas where small insects are a problem. Airflow is slightly reduced compared to standard mesh.

What are retractable screens?+

Retractable screens roll into a slim cassette housing when not in use. They are ideal for front doors, French doors, large patio openings, or anywhere a permanently visible screen would detract from the look of the door. We install Mirage retractable screen systems.

What are motorized screens?+

Motorized screens drop down automatically from a ceiling or wall cassette at the touch of a button or via a smart home system. They are typically used for large outdoor living spaces — covered patios, pergolas, porches — where a manual screen would be impractical to operate.

Do you install condo balcony screens?+

Yes. We use no-drill tension-mount systems that fit within the existing balcony door frame and require no modification to the building structure. No strata or property manager approval is typically needed, but we recommend verifying with your building before booking.

Pricing & Payment

How much does a window screen repair cost?+

Window screen rescreening starts at $25 per screen. Custom-fabricated replacement screens start at $40. Patio screen door repairs start at $80. Exact pricing depends on screen size, mesh type, and frame condition — we confirm the price before starting any work.

Is the estimate really free?+

Yes. We assess your screens on-site and quote the job before any work begins. There is no charge for the estimate and no obligation to proceed.

What payment methods do you accept?+

We accept cash, e-transfer, and all major credit cards. Payment is due on completion of the job.

Warranty & Guarantee

Do you warranty your work?+

Yes. All repairs and installations come with a 1-year workmanship guarantee. If something fails due to our labour within that period, we will fix it at no charge. See our Guarantee page for full terms.

Are Mirage retractable screens covered by a manufacturer warranty?+

Yes. Mirage retractable and motorized screens carry a limited lifetime warranty on the aluminum housing, spring mechanism, and plastic components. Screen mesh is warranted by the mesh manufacturer (Phifer or Twitchell). As an authorized Mirage installer, we handle warranty claims on your behalf.

What is not covered by the workmanship guarantee?+

Pet damage, storm damage, accidents, and normal wear and tear are not covered. Modifications made by a third party after our service also void the guarantee. Manufacturing defects in the materials themselves fall under the relevant product warranty.
